We are proud to share that MultiControl has been awarded a new contract for the delivery and installation of a CanisMatic Gantry vehicle X-ray scanner. The system will be deployed at the Grebņova border crossing on the Latvia–Russia border.

With the start of the new year, construction works are already underway, including the deinstallation of the existing system. The new scanning solution is scheduled to become fully operational later this year, strengthening border security and inspection efficiency at one of the EU’s external borders.

How Does Vehicle X-ray Scanner Work?

CanisMatic Gantry is MultiControl’s flagship solution and one of the most recognizable customs X-ray scanners on the global market. Designed as an advanced Border X-ray Scanner, it belongs to a new generation of X-ray inspection systems for vehicles and containers, supporting high-performance cargo and vehicle screening.

At the Grebņova border crossing, the system has been deployed in Gantry mode; however, the CanisMatic Gantry is designed to operate in both Gantry and Portal configurations depending on operational requirements.

Its unique three-rail construction enables operation in either mode, providing exceptional flexibility of use and allowing the system to be adapted to site infrastructure and traffic organization. This makes the system highly effective wherever high throughput, wide scanning coverage, and continuous operation are essential for cargo security and border control operations.

The system is engineered for reliability in all operating environments. It performs equally well at border crossings, seaports, and logistics hubs, wherever fast and accurate inspection of vehicles and cargo is required.

How does X-ray vehicle scanner detect contraband?

At the core of the system is a dual-energy linear accelerator configurable as 3/6 MeV (6/9 MeV configuration available upon customer request), enabling precise differentiation between organic and inorganic materials.

This technology allows the CanisMatic Gantry to rapidly and reliably detect concealed threats, including cigarettes, narcotics, weapons, contraband, and undeclared goods. As a result, the system enhances cargo security and supports customs and border authorities in making accurate inspection decisions.

Why Is a Vehicle Inspection X-ray System Effective for Customs and Border Control Operations?

  • Proven, universal system for comprehensive cargo inspection
  • Dual-energy technology for organic and inorganic material discrimination
  • UFF 3.0 compatible for seamless system integration
  • Full radiation safety and protection compliance
  • Fast start-up – ready in up to 20 minutes
  • Automatic recognition of licence plates and containers (optional)
  • Extended warranty and professional service support
  • Intuitive software for easy operation

Advanced imaging software delivers an X-ray image ready for interpretation almost instantly, reducing the need for time-consuming manual checks and increasing overall inspection efficiency.

An additional advantage is the modular and relocatable design, allowing the X-ray scanner to be moved to a new location and reconfigured as operational needs evolve. This makes CanisMatic Gantry a future-proof solution that combines efficiency, flexibility, and long-term cost-effectiveness for modern border and cargo inspection operations.

FAQ

  1. Where will the CanisMatic Gantry be installed in Latvia?

The system will be delivered and installed at the Grebņova border crossing on the Latvia–Russia border, one of the EU’s external borders. The new X-ray scanner will replace the existing system and is scheduled to become fully operational later this year.

  2. What Types of Inspections Can a Vehicle X-ray Scanner Support?

The CanisMatic Gantry enables comprehensive cargo and vehicle inspection, including trucks, containers, and other vehicles crossing border checkpoints. It supports high-throughput operations where fast and accurate verification is essential for cargo security and customs control.

  3. How does dual-energy technology improve cargo security?

The system uses a dual-energy linear accelerator 3/6 MeV (6/9 MeV optional), allowing precise differentiation between organic and inorganic materials. This enables fast and reliable detection of concealed threats such as cigarettes, narcotics, weapons, contraband, and undeclared goods, significantly enhancing cargo security at border crossings.

  4. Can a Vehicle Inspection X-ray Scanner Operate in Different Scanning Modes?

Yes. Thanks to its unique three-rail construction, the system can operate in both Gantry and Portal* modes, offering exceptional flexibility and making it suitable for various border and logistics environments.

*The Portal mode is available upon customer request, subject to operational and infrastructure requirements.

  5. In What Environments Can a Vehicle X-ray Scanner Be Used?

The system performs reliably at border crossings, seaports, and logistics hubs, wherever fast and accurate inspection of vehicles and cargo is required. It is designed to operate continuously under demanding conditions.

  6. How Quickly Are X-ray Images Available for Analysis in Customs and Border Control Operations?

Advanced imaging software delivers an X-ray image ready for interpretation almost instantly, reducing the need for time-consuming manual inspections and improving overall inspection efficiency.

  7. Is a Vehicle X-ray Scanner a Relocatable Solution?

Yes. The system features a modular and relocatable design, allowing it to be moved to another location and reconfigured to meet changing operational needs, making it a future-proof and cost-effective investment.

About MultiControl
